WEST BEND, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Saying the decision comes after three decades as a judge and justice in the state, Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Annette Ziegler announced Monday, March 9 she will not seek reelection when her term ends in 2027.

"It has been the honor of my lifetime to serve as judge and justice for the past 30 years," Ziegler said in her statement. "After three decades on the bench, now is the right time for me to step away to spend more time with my husband, kids and grandkids."

Ziegler was first elected to the state’s highest court in 2007 with 59% of the vote and was reelected in 2017 without opposition.

Though she is regarded as part of the court's conservative side, she used her statement to celebrate both Republicans and Democrats supporting her "commitment to fairness, ethics and the rule of law."

Before joining the Supreme Court, she served as a Washington County judge and District III deputy chief judge, and previously worked as an assistant U.S. attorney, special assistant district attorney and private practice attorney.
