Wisconsin receives federal funding for boating infrastructure updates at 2 marinas

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Wisconsin's Department of Natural Resources revealed on Tuesday, March 28 that two marina projects in the state have been granted federal funding through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Boating Infrastructure Grant program.

A total of over $20 million was distributed to 22 states and territories to support the development and maintenance of recreational boating facilities.

Wisconsin secured both Tier 1 and Tier 2 BIG grants in 2023, one of only eight states to do so. High Cliff State Park Marina will utilize the $200,000 Tier 1 grant for replacing a deteriorated culvert and upgrading outdated navigational lighting.

The marina, which can host approximately 100 vessels, has experienced reduced water clarity and sedimentation issues due to the compromised culvert.

The Tier 2 sub-award, amounting to $1.2 million, will go to the South Bay Marina in Green Bay for the Transient Docks project.

This facility, situated at the convergence of the Fox River and Lake Michigan, will undergo enhancements such as the addition of 52 transient boat slips, breakwater improvements, and a dedicated restroom and shower facility for transient boaters.
