Wisconsin lawmakers react to US assassination of Iranian commander

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Congress was not briefed before the drone attack that took out the Iranian general, and now members of Wisconsin's congressional delegation are starting to respond.

Republican Senator Ron Johnson, who chairs the Homeland Security Committee, didn't offer a ringing endorsement of the attack, but he did say it's time for Iran to deescalate and end its terrorist attacks.

U.S. Representative Mike Gallagher, who is a Marine Corps veteran, accuses Iran of escalating tensions with the United States.

"We've established a clear red line of don't kill Americans, and if you do, we will respond," he said. "And we have enforced that red line."

Democratic Congressman Mark Pocan says the president's decision was wrong and will endanger innocent people. He adds that the U.S. must avoid another endless war.
