MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Gov. Tony Evers announced Thursday, Sept. 4 that Wisconsin has joined the U.S. Climate Alliance’s Affordable Clean Cars Coalition. The multi-state program is aimed at expanding access to cleaner and more affordable cars while supporting the U.S. auto industry and reducing pollution.

Wisconsin and Hawai’i are joining 11 states that launched the coalition in May, including California, New York and Washington.

Members are reportedly working on policies to make electric vehicles more affordable, expand charging infrastructure and support U.S. manufacturing jobs.

Evers, who co-chairs the U.S. Climate Alliance, first joined the group in 2019. He also created Wisconsin’s Office of Sustainability and Clean Energy, which oversees the state’s plan to achieve 100% carbon-free electricity by 2050.

The Alliance represents 24 governors nationwide.
