MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- If you're still looking for the paw-fect valentine, the Wisconsin Humane Society is offering a hefty discount on adoption fees.
Starting Feb.11 to the 18th, the Wisconsin Humane Society will offer 50% off of all adult dog adoption fees. According to Rachel Hahn, director of shelter operations at the Wisconsin Humane Society, the main reason for the special is to find homes for dogs with medical needs.
"Our reason for the discount is actually not quite as related to COVID as it is just that we've had an influx of more dogs who have more medical and behavioral needs" said Hahn.
Hahn said 36 dogs will be available for adoption within all five of their shelters.
This is the first time in five years the Wisconsin Humane Society has offered such a discount. By next week, all five facilities will be reopened after several were shut down due to COVID.
"All these animals here have unique needs, but one thing they all have in common is that they want to go home," said Hahn.
Prospective adopter Maxine Hunt said all the dogs need is a little love.
"Animals need love just like humans do, and the more you show them love, that helps them to get over their illnesses," said Hunt.
Hahn said they hope the discount helps their dogs in need of extra love to find homes so they can provide more space to help their local communities and out-of-state transfer partners.
