Wisconsin DNR offering hunter education courses as fall season approaches

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is urging both novice and seasoned hunters to sign up for hunter education courses ahead of the fall season.

Multiple course options are available across the state to suit different learning preferences.

Traditional courses consist of multi-day, in-person sessions featuring lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on assessments. The Internet + Field Day option requires online coursework followed by an in-person field day, emphasizing safe firearm handling and practical exercises. An online-only option is available for those 18 years or older with prior hunting or firearms experience.

A press release from the DNR highlighted statistics revealing that most hunting incidents in Wisconsin involve hunters older than 40, suggesting a need for refresher courses.

Early enrollment is advised, as more than 20,000 people annually take these courses in Wisconsin.
