West Bend business robbed of thousands of dollars in Pokémon merchandise
CBS 58 WEST BEND, Wis. (CBS 58) — A West Bend business owner is out more than $20,000 worth of collectibles after his store was robbed.
"I kind of had every shop owner's worst nightmare," said Spencer Foyse, the owner of Sped's Collectibles.
When Foyse woke up Sunday morning, he knew something was wrong when he checked his phone.
"I had a bunch of notifications on my camera system, and I knew something was up because there were 36 motion detections."
As he watched the surveillance video from his store, he said he couldn't believe it.
"Yeah, he just jumped through the window and was able to just start rummaging through all my cases, and he just started dumping stuff in his backpack and started tossing all items in the backpack," Foyse said.
Foyse said more than $20,000 worth of collectible Pokémon merchandise was stolen.
"The last year of work just gone. It sucks," Foyse said.
With the price of cards skyrocketing from high demand, they're hard to replace.
"Super, super expensive," Foyse said. "Just the prices on some of these cards are insane. I mean, they blow my mind, and I own the store."
West Bend police said they are working to find the suspect, and another robbery at a collectibles store in Washington County is being investigated.
Foyse said stores with Pokémon merchandise are becoming a target.
"I think a lot of shops that have been putting around the idea of bumping up security, but haven't yet," Foyse said. "I think now is the time to do it, and I think that the shop owners need to stand together in this, and we need to take extra precautions."
