West Bend Man Crashes into Squad Car who was on a Traffic Stop with Another Car
West Bend man who was on his cellphone and on a controlled substance struck a stopped squad car in the 900 block of East Washington Street.
According to West Bend Police Department's Facebook page, two West Bend Police Officers made a traffic stop in the 900 block of East Washington Street on Friday at 11:20 AM.
The officers were outside the squad talking to the driver of the vehicle they stopped when a vehicle driving eastbound on East Washington Street struck the marked squad car from behind.
The squad had all its emergency lights operating at the time of the crash. Both the striking vehicle and the squad sustained major damage. The vehicle the officers had initially stopped was protected by the squad and was not struck.
The officers were not injured. Investigation showed the driver of the striking vehicle, a 25 year old male resident of West Bend, was on his cell phone at the time of the crash and was under the influence of a controlled substance.
The West Bend Fire Department transported the 25 year old driver to St Joseph’s Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released. The man was arrested for Inattentive Driving and OWI (controlled substance).
