’It’s just shocking’: West Allis home set on fire as homeowner...
WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) – Business owners along Greenfield Ave. in West Allis are relieved an emergency construction project wrapped up before the holiday weekend.
The emergency repairs had to be done to fix failing pipes and prevent sewage back-ups between 72nd and 74th Street. Owners in the area said they took a sales hit during the two-and-a-half week project.
“Our retail business did suffer,” Aggie’s Bakery and Cake Shop co-owner Adam Purcell said. “Probably down 30-40% which is about 50 customers a day for us, so it is a substantial difference.”
The project was finished on Wednesday, two days earlier than expected.
“Now we have the drive-by traffic and they see and now remember that ‘oh my goodness it’s Easter’ and we’re open,” Freese’s Candy Shop owner Wendy Matel said.
City leaders said the project was successful and all of the pipes were fixed.
