Wellness Triathlon at Nicolet High School in Glendale

For another year, the students at Nicolet High School in Glendale are proving that people of all abilities can enjoy sports together.

Tuesday was the Wellness Triathlon where student in adaptive physical education are paired with Nicolet students to compete in bicycling, running and swimming.

Huge crowds gathered to see for themselves those tender moments when gentle encouragement from a peer can give a much needed boost to complete a race and gain some self esteem.

"I just want to thank everyone involved. It was unbelievable the students and the cheering," said event founder and wellness teacher Laura Mildebrandt.

"The parents get to see their kids in school environment and see what an integral part the special ed students are to our school," added fellow wellness teacher Lyn Deiss.

When the program started it was on stationary bikes with a couple of laps.

It has now grown into a hug community building experience.

It has also proven to be highly effective in motivating students to get in shape with positive recognition.

Although the coaches will tell you, they get just as much out of it.

Feeling good inside and out at Nicolet High School.
