'We’re excited to see her personality bloom': First Ridglan Farm beagles adopted in Milwaukee
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) - For the first time, some of the beagles removed from Ridglan Farms are being adopted in Milwaukee.
This week, the Wisconsin Humane Society’s Milwaukee campus took in 90 beagles removed from the breeding facility as part of a larger nationwide removal effort involving more than 1,500 dogs.
The dogs have drawn national attention after claims they were living in poor conditions.
A handful of the beagles were quickly cleared for adoption after being evaluated by staff.
“There were a handful that were able to be spayed and neutered, seen by our vet team and behavioral team and we’re cleared already for adoption so we’re really excited,” said Angela Speed, vice president of marketing and communications for the Wisconsin Humane Society.
Many of the dogs are now experiencing everyday life for the first time.
“They’ve never slept on the couch, worn collars or leashes, or even played in the grass,” Speed said.
Among the adopters were Michael Bischoff and Dani Perez, who already own a beagle and another rescue dog. After following the Ridglan Farms story, they decided to adopt one of the pups.
“I knew that I had to get one of them. Whatever I could do to make sure one of these dogs has a great home, the kind of thing a lot of them never had the opportunity to experience was really important to me,” Bischoff said.
The bond started forming almost immediately after meeting their new dog.
“It feels pretty good. Look at her right now, she just met me and she’s scared, sure, but she's snuggling and cuddling,” Bischoff said.
As the couple walked out of the humane society with their newest family member, they said they were looking forward to giving the beagle a fresh start.
“We’re excited to see her personality bloom and grow and see what her new life is going to be like,” Dani Perez said.
