We Energies worker among 2 drivers injured in multi-vehicle crash on I-43

511 Wisconsin

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A We Energies employee is being treated for injuries following a multi-vehicle crash on I-43 near the Becher Street off-ramp Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, an SUV was approaching the northbound I-43 Lincoln Avenue off-ramp when it swerved to avoid crashing with a vehicle that had struck a light post. A We Energies truck then crashed into a tree in an attempt to avoid the near collision.

Officials say both the We Energies driver and the driver who struck the light post became pinned in their damaged vehicles.

Both drivers were taken to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.

Two northbound lanes on I-43 at Becher were closed around 2:16 p.m. for about an hour, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, as well as the off-ramp.

We Energies says they are cooperating with law enforcement as they investigate.
