WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- We Energies introduced the new messenger for their safety campaign at State Fair Park Tuesday afternoon.
You'll be seeing a lot of this little guy in August. His name is "Chubbs", and he's been chosen to be the spokes-dog for We Energies as they spread the word about safe digging.
Chubbs will appear on what they're calling a "billboard blitz" starting on August 11. The billboards remind people to call 811 before starting any yard work that involves digging.
"There are underground utilities, so if you're working in your yard, planting a tree, planting a garden or putting in a fence post, you have to call -- it's a state law, you have to call 811 before you dig," We Energies spokesperson Alison Trouy said. "Because if you strike one of those underground facilities, that could be really dangerous for you and your family."
Chubbs, the "Safe Digging Ambassador", was chosen by a vote of We Energies customers. He seemed a little distracted at today's news conference, but he'll be ready to spread his safety message on August 11.
