WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Hundreds of thousands of people living along Florida's Gulf Coast still don't have power, but a group of Wisconsinites are hoping to change that.
A crew of 25 We Energies employees have boots on the ground Monday night, in Tampa.
They've been there for about a week clearing downed trees, replacing damaged poles and restoring powerlines. It's not easy work, but the workers say the response from the community keeps them focused on their mission.
"One customer, and pounded my fist as he was going past - which I've probably had about four of those on this trip so far. So, I think that's the motivator for these employees, and it's keeping 'em going," said Nate Schkeryantz, We Energies operations manager.
The local relief efforts don't stop there. On Saturday, the Wisconsin Humane Society welcomed three dozen dogs and cats who were evacuated from Florida shelters.
Some of those animals will be available to adopt in a few days.
