Waukesha Police Department Issues Warning About Collection Agency Scam
WAUKESHA - The Waukesha Police Department is urging citizens to be cautious of collection agencies calling them from 844 numbers and threatening litigation if a settlement payment for an outstanding loan isn't received.
The callers might threaten civil litigation if not paid immediately. The Waukesha Police Department says that in all likelihood these individuals are trying to get information or credit card numbers in order to commit fraud.
The victims have been contacted via phone calls with numbers from the 414 area code. These numbers with the 414 area code are voice over protocol numbers, which are very hard to track down.
The Waukesha Police urges citizens to be vigilant and mindful of releasing personal information including banking and credit/debit card numbers to strangers.
