Waukesha County Deputy rescues families pets from house fire

A deputy knocked out a first floor window and brought the two dogs to safety from a house fire at N83W28223 Center Oak Road in the Town of Merton at 7:29 AM.

Merton Fire Department and the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department responded with additional assistance from the Village of Sussex, Town of Lisbon, North Lake, Town of Delafield, and Hartland Fire Departments.

The fire was first observed by a neighbor who alerted the Waukesha County Communications Center.  The two adult homeowners had already left residence prior to the fire.  Upon initial arrival, a Deputy was advised that there were two dogs trapped inside the residence.  The fire caused property damage to the residence, attached garage, and vehicles parked in the garage.

After the fire was extinguished, Fire Department Command did request fire investigation from the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department.  The initial cause of the fire is unknown at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
