Water Street Bridge traffic to be reduced Sept. 2 ahead of full closure

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The City of Milwaukee will begin rehabilitation work on the Water Street Bascule Bridge over the Milwaukee River on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction starting at 6 a.m. Tuesday as structural repairs begin. According to city officials, the initial work does not involve painting but other structural improvements.

The single-lane restriction will last until Monday, Sept. 8 when the bridge will fully close to all traffic beginning at 6 a.m. The city has not yet announced a reopening date for the bridge.
