Washington County barn declared total loss after early morning fire, damage estimated to exceed $1M

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A barn in the Town of Farmington was declared a total loss Monday, June 22, following an early morning fire. 

A passerby reported the fire around 4:45 a.m., according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, also alerting the residents, who began checking on cattle. 

Responding deputies found the barn on Trading Post Trail fully engulfed in flames and upgraded the fire to a third alarm, with multiple fire departments assisting. 

Officials say damage to the barn, which included a milking parlor, is estimated to exceed $1 million. 

No one was injured, according to the sheriff's office, and no dairy cattle were harmed. 

The fire is not believed to be suspicious in nature.
