Washington County: 48-year-old man dies in duplex trailer fire

BARTON, Wisc. (CBS 58) --- A 48-year-old man died after a duplex trailer fire Saturday, Jan. 23.

Washington County Sheriff's Office said it happened just before 6 p.m. in the 7000 block of Lenwood Drive in Barton.

Officials responded to a report of a duplex trailer fire after a neighboring tenant saw smoke and fire from a nearby unit.

According to WCSO, the neighbor tried to notify the tenant, but could not get a response at the locked door.

Fire personnel found a 48-year-old Barton man, who occupied the unit, unresponsive in the living area while trying to put out the fire.

Officials say the man was immediately carried out to an awaiting ambulance. He was pronounced dead on scene by paramedics.

According to a news release, the interior of the unit sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage, resulting in a total loss of the home. 

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

The American Red Cross was called to assist the displaced tenant of the attached neighboring unit. 

The name of the victim has not  yet been released. 

No fire or police personnel were injured.
