MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- In a span of less than 10 hours between Saturday night and Sunday morning, Milwaukee police said they responded to seven different shootings across the city.

Police briefings showed a total of 10 victims amid the gun violence. Two of those victims died; they were both shot in the same incident.

Police said that shooting happened shortly after midnight Sunday near N. 37th St. and W. Townsend St. A 43-year-old man died at the hospital from his injuries.

Police later updated their report to show the second victim, a 47-year-old Milwaukee man had also died at the hospital. As of Sunday morning, investigators were still looking for the shooter. 

"I heard some gunshots, quite a few of them, and I ducked, because bullets fly and they have no name so I heard them screaming and hollering," said one woman who wished to remain anonymous, who lived near where it happened. "[I] don't feel comfortable in the city anymore. I was born and raised here, and over the years it's gotten worse and it's getting worse. It's very frightening."

The series of shootings began around 7:30 p.m. near N. 15th St. and W. Wright St. Police said a 23-year-old Milwaukee man was wounded but is expected to survive his injuries. Investigators are still looking for the gunman.

From there, six more shootings followed Saturday night and into Sunday:

  • Also around 7:30 p.m., a 20-year-old Milwaukee woman and 19-year-old Milwaukee man were wounded near N. Sherman Blvd. and W. Hadley St. Both victims are expected to survive. Police are looking for the suspect. 
  • At 9:06 p.m., a 39-year-old Milwaukee man was shot near S. 5th Pl. and W. Burnham St. He is expected to survive. Police said they recovered a gun from the scene, and also took the victim into custody. Police added they're still looking for unknown suspects.
  • At about 9:10 p.m., a 31-year-old Milwaukee man was shot near N. 12th St. and W. Highland Ave. The victim is expected to survive. Police are still looking for the shooter.
  • The double homicide at N. 37th St. and W. Townsend St. at 12:14 a.m.
  • At 1:33 a.m. near N. 34th St. and W. Wright St., a 14-year-old boy was shot and wounded. Police said the teen is expected to survive. Police added they arrested a 25-year-old Milwaukee man, and they recovered a gun from the scene. Police said the shooting was related to an auto theft.
  • Around 4:55 a.m., a 20-year-old Milwaukee man and a 19-year-old Milwaukee man were shot near N. 69th St. and W. Hope Ave. Police said both victims were expected to survive and that their investigation is still ongoing.

Police reported two shootings from Friday night into Saturday morning. Around 11:45 p.m., a 28-year-old Milwaukee man was shot and killed near N. 21st St. and W. Wright St. Police said they were still looking for the gunman.

At 4:09 a.m. Saturday, a 32-year-old Milwaukee man was shot near N. 10th St. and W. Atkinson Ave. Police said the victim, who is expected to survive, was taken into custody on suspected burglary. Police also arrested a 27-year-old Milwaukee man in connection to the incident. Investigators said they recovered a gun from the scene.

"You know I'm just hoping the mayor does something more to protect the community here, it's just really sad," said the woman who lived near where the double homicide happened.
