Vigil to be held Monday for Sierra Guyton

MILWAUKEE -- A vigil will be held Monday for a 10-year-old girl who died after being shot while playing with friends on her school's playground.

Sierra Guyton was shot in the head and leg on May 21 while playing at Clarke Street School.

For 53 days, friends, family, and complete strangers rallied around the Guyton family, hoping and praying for a full recovery.

Guyton, who was being treated at Children's Hospital, was removed from life support late last month. Loved ones became hopeful upon hearing the news that she was breathing on her own.

Guyton died overnight Sunday, with family and loved ones at her side.

She is one of more than 30 innocent child victims of gun violence in Milwaukee this year.

Charges against the two suspects responsible for the shooting are expected to be amended this week following Guyton's passing.

Sylvester Lewis is charged with several counts, including first-degree reckless injury.

Jamey Jackson, a second suspect, is charged with felony possession of a firearm.

Lewis and Jackson were shooting at each other when bullets hit Guyton as she played with friends.

A vigil is planned for 7:45 p.m. Monday outside of Clarke Street School at 28th & Clarke streets.

A donation account is set up for the family at U.S. Bank.
