Vigil for Milwaukee's 2016 Homicide Victims

CBS 58— All of the nearly more than 140 Milwaukee homicide victims in 2015 were remembered at a vigil Friday night.

During the program, candles were lit for each victim and all the names were read aloud.

“I just want you to know your community is here to support you because we have to stop this,” said Pastor Greg Lewis. “And the only way we’re going to do that is look at the undercurrent of why this is happening, like bringing our families back together.”

Among the families of those killed there's a sense of a community.

“I wish I could just hug each and every one of them, and tell them somebody knows exactly what you’re going through,” said Ramona Boon, who’s 9-year-old niece Za’layia Jenkins was killed this year.

The 2016 homicide total almost reached the 2015 number, which was one of the most violent in recent memory.
