Vehicle pulled from water in McCarty Park after driver fled traffic stop, 1 arrested
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- West Allis police arrested a suspect Tuesday after a vehicle officers attempted to perform a traffic stop on was found abandoned in a body of water in McCarty Park.
Police say they attempted to stop the vehicle traveling near 96th and Cleveland Avenue around 3:20 p.m. Officers say the vehicle had no registration plate and its driver's side window was smashed out.
Authorities say the driver fled from the officer and the pursuit was terminated, but the vehicle was seen entering McCarty Park.
Soon after, police say a male believed to be associated with the fleeing vehicle was seen running east from the park.
Officers located the suspect vehicle in the creek/storm water canal in the park.
A perimeter was set up, and the suspect was taken into custody near 77th and Arthur Avenue.
