UWM's upset bid falls short against Valpo

UWM's Panthers have said they're treating the last several regular season games like playoff games, since this year's Panthers squad is ineligible for the postseason. Sunday, that attitude nearly led to a major upset.

The Panthers led Horizon League front-runner Valpo until midway through the second half, but came up short 62-55. Matt Tiby and Steve McWhorter scored 14 a piece for the Panthers, whose five game home win streak was snapped.

The Panthers led the Crusaders by five at the half, and Steve McWhorter's three pointer with 10:04 remaining gave UWM a three point lead. But the Panthers would not score a point in the next five minutes, and Valpo's 11-0 run gave them the lead for good.

UWM plays one more home game this season, next Sunday against Cleveland State.
