UWM Announces Basketball Schedule

Three games against Power 5 conference opponents and a pair of quality in-season tournaments highlight the 2015-16 Milwaukee men’s basketball nonconference schedule, which was recently released. The Panthers will also play four home games during the nonconference portion of the schedule.

“This is one of the more challenging schedules we have played during my time at Milwaukee,” Panthers head coach Rob Jeter said. “We finished the 2014-15 season with a lot of positive energy and momentum and are confident we can carry that forward this season. Our team will be tested early at two very competitive tournaments in the first three weeks of the season. Add in games against Notre Dame, which reached the Elite Eight last season, and Wisconsin, which finished as the national runner-up, to go with a tough match-up at Minnesota, and we should be battled-tested for the grind of the Horizon League season.”

Milwaukee opens up the 2015-16 campaign by traveling to the Bay Area to play in the first of two in-season tournaments, the Cable Car Classic hosted by Santa Clara University, November 13-15. Those games are the beginning of a season-opening stretch that will see the Panthers play eight of their first 10 games away from home.

While in the Golden State, the Panthers will take on Denver (Nov. 13), Lipscomb (Nov. 14) and the host Broncos (Nov. 15) before returning to the Midwest to battle  Notre Dame (Nov. 17), which finished last season ranked No. 5 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight.

Head coach Rob Jeter’s squad will play its home opener November 20 when it welcomes Trinity International to UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. From there, the Panthers head south to Estero, Fla., to compete against a rugged field in the Gulf Coast Showcase, November 23-25. Milwaukee has a difficult draw in the first round of the tournament as it is paired up against Murray State, which has posted a 158-43 (.786) record over the last six seasons.

A return to the Midwest for the remainder of the nonconference season ensues and the Panthers open the month of December by hosting SIU Edwardsville (Dec. 3) before paying a visit to last year’s NCAA Runner-Up Wisconsin (Dec. 9) and then hosting Judson (Dec. 13) and South Dakota (Dec. 17).

Milwaukee wraps up the non-league season when it pays a visit to Minneapolis and historic Williams Arena to battle Minnesota. The Gophers posted an 18-15 record in 2014-15.
