MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Dr. Jeff Pothof, Chief Quality Officer at UW Health joined us on Tuesday, May 16 to discuss the latest developments in global health issues. He discussed the World Health Organization's recent termination of the COVID-19 global emergency order and its implications for public health.
Dr. Pothof also to elaborated on a study exploring alcohol consumption trends during the pandemic, particularly within certain demographics. Another key topic is the rising "epidemic of loneliness and isolation" and the associated mental health concerns.
In addition, Dr. Pothof commented on the increase in fentanyl overdose deaths among children. In pharmaceutical updates, he chimed in on the recent FDA approval of the first Respiratory Syncytial Virus vaccine as well as the consideration of over-the-counter birth control pills.
