MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Earth Day will be celebrated on April 22, and to help local families get planned, educators are discussing ways to involve children in the process of learning more about the planet and its sustainability, in both fun and informative ways.
Pre-K teacher Jen Davis from The Goddard School of Pleasant Prairie joined us on Thursday, April 6 to emphasize the importance of teaching children how to recycle. She noted that recycling not only benefits the environment, but also aids in a child's development.
According to DoSomething.org, up to 75% of waste can be recycled or repurposed.
To promote environmental stewardship and creativity, Davis recommends setting up a "construction zone" at home, where children can repurpose items like old socks, magazines, boxes and art materials.
This approach teaches children the value of reusing objects and encourages resourcefulness, rather than simply disposing of items.
