Union Grove Man Accused of Pocketing Nearly $5,000 from Iron Skillet's Customers

A Union Grove man allegedly stole nearly $5000 from the Iron Skillet by giving unauthorized discounts to customers and pocketing the difference.

The Iron Skillet, at 717 South Sylvania Avenue in the Town of Yorkville, was notified by another employee that Korey Hintz had been doing this during his shift.

According to the criminal complaint, the employee noticed that several customers’ bills in the computer had been discounted down to zero.

Hintz did this by utilizing by the two dollar off button several times for one bill until there was nothing left.

When the bill would show an amount less than zero, he would create an extra charge to the bill. The add-on charge would be for O& H Bakery. The Iron Skillet would have to pay O&H for the add-on item.

Hintz only did this for bills paid in cash.

The bills added up to $4743.37.

The Iron Skillet’s two dollar off promotion had not been officially used by the company for over a year.

Hintz arrived at work and spoke with the employee, and after speaking with the employee deputies asked Hintz if he knew why they were there. Hintz said it was because he had been stealing from the restaurant.

Hintz told police he learned this from another employee that had been fired for doing the same exact thing.

Hintz was charged with theft of a business setting and possession of a controlled substance.
