Sen. Ron Johnson discusses border policy during Milwaukee visit
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- An undocumented immigrant whose detainment sparked accusations about the collaboration between ICE and Milwaukee police is out on bond.
Jose De La Cruz expressed his gratitude towards the decision and the impact this has had on his family.
Video from the incident last September shows immigration agents approach his car. When the family refused to open the doors and roll down the windows, officers with MPD were flagged down to assist.
Now, activists want police to refuse cooperation with immigration officers.
"Next thing I know I was surrounded by police," said Jose. "They blocked the streets. They told me they were going to break my windows and stuff like that, and you know there's nothing you can do. And everybody's crying, my kids were traumatized by that. And you can't do anything about it."
The issue is on the agenda for the Policy and Standards Committee Thursday, Dec. 12.
The matter will then go before the Fire and Police Commission on Dec. 18.
