West Bend Police: 2 men arrested after attempting to buy gift cards with stolen credit card information

WEST BEND, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Two men have now been charged with four counts of identity theft after Walmart reported suspicious behavior.

According to police, an employee of Walmart reported that two men in a self-checkout lane were loading money onto gift cards using multiple credit cards with different cardholder names on them.

It happened shortly before noon on Saturday.

The men left the store before West Bend officers arrived. A vehicle description was shared with other law enforcement agencies and a Washington County Sheriff's Deputy was able to stop the vehicle southbound on US Hwy 41.

A 34-year-old man and a 27-year-old man, both with Florida Identification cards, were taken into custody.

The men were found to be in possession of debit and credit card information from a number of West Bend residents.

Investigators are still attempting to determine how the men obtained the information from residents.

The investigation remains ongoing.
