MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- As Milwaukee Public Schools continues to test its buildings for lead – the district is offering lead testing for families as well.

On Saturday, March 15, MPS, along with the Milwaukee Health Department and Children’s Hospital, will hold a lead screening clinic at Bradley Tech. from 9 a.m.  to 1 p.m. Families can stop by and get tested for lead or have some of their questions, answered.

Earlier this year, MPS had four schools test positive for lead, including Golda Meir, Kagel Elementary, Maryland Montessori, and Trowbridge. Each school went through intensive lead dust and lead abatement processes.

Michael Harris, the interim chief administrative officer of MPS, says families from all four schools that were affected are encouraged to come to the free lead clinic and get tested. If there are other MPS families that have questions or concerns, they are encouraged to come as well.

“We’re focusing on our K-8 building where we have those kindergarten students through grade two, as well as those most fragile, special education students. So that’s our priority and we’re going to continue to do that work. We’re ready to go, we’ve learned a lot and so, we’re moving forward,” said Harris.

Earlier this month, Trowbridge closed down for lead cleaning. The school is expected to reopen tomorrow. Kagel and Maryland Montessori are also clear of lead. Harris says MPS is still waiting on additional results from testing at Golda Meir.
