Toddler Among Two Killed In Chicago Shooting

CHICAGO (CBS CHICAGO) — Two people were killed, including a toddler, and one more was wounded, in a shooting Tuesday afternoon in North Lawndale.

Multiple shots were fired at a vehicle in the 2300 block of Kenneth Avenue on Tuesday shortly before 1:30 p.m.

One male victim, a 20-year-old documented gang member, was shot several times and died as a result of his injuries. Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said he thinks this was a targeted shooting, adding that he thinks the shooters were looking for the male victim.

A two-year-old, who was in the backseat of the vehicle, was also shot. A Chicago Police spokesman indicated the boy died, saying the child succumbed to his injuries.

The aunt of the toddler was also in the vehicle. She was shot, but is reportedly in fair condition. Authorities say she is pregnant.

“I hope our legislative partners are looking right now,” said Johnson. “We have got to step up, roll up our sleeves, and do the right thing. And the right thing is creating a culture of accountability for these people that refuse to live by the rules of society.”
