18-year-old shot and killed; Milwaukee residents wake up to gunshots
MILWAUKEE, (CBS 58) -- An 18-year-old is dead after an early morning shooting in Milwaukee on Sat. May 31.
Neighbors in the area say they woke up to the sound of gunshots and saw a man lying in the street.
"You just don’t want to witness that," said Anselmo Romo Shavez Jr. "You know, you don’t want to wake up in the middle of the night and the next thing you know someone is dead across the street."
Shavez was one of many neighbors awoken Saturday morning to the sound of multiple gunshots along 41st and Glendale Avenue. He says when he went outside of his home to see what happened, he found a bullet hole through his door and a bullet on the ground.
"I was shook," said Shavez. "You know we opened the door, we see a little glass on the floor right by where the dog eats, so obviously we got her out that room."
As he looked at the damage, he says he worried about what could have been and is thankful his pet and family weren't injured.
"It was scary you know, seeing just a bullet right there," said Shavez. "Who knows where else it could have ricocheted or not. I’m just happy it's in the ground.”
Milwaukee Police say an 18-year-old died at the scene and although they're searching for suspects, neighbors say they feel uneasy.
"Theres kids out here playing and nobody wants to get a call saying their son is on the ground you know," said Shavez. "Nobody wants that phone call."
The investigation remains ongoing as police continue to search for suspect(s).
