MILWAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Three officers are currently recovering after being exposed to drug related-substances in two separate incidents.
Greendale Police took two suspects into custody after an alleged retail theft at Southridge Mall around 7 p.m. on Friday. During the removal of a purse from the suspect's car, two officers were exposed to an unknown substance.
One officer began experiencing symptoms of exposure while still on scene. The second one began experiencing symptoms at the police department. Both Greendale officers were administered Narcan and taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure. They were later released.
After the officers were given Narcan, the Milwaukee Fire Hazmat team responded to the department.
“We were called to remove the contamination so that no one else was exposed to the initial exposure," said Lt. Darin Peterburs, Milwaukee Fire Department, Hazmat.
The two suspects remain in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
In a separate incident, a Milwaukee Police Officer was taken to the hospital late Friday night after being exposed to fentanyl. The exposure happened during an arrest of a suspect where the drug was found on the suspect.
The officer was treated and released and will return to duty in the coming days.
The investigation remains ongoing.
