Three Milwaukee residents plead guilty in tax fraud scheme

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Three people from Milwaukee heave pleaded guilty in a tax fraud scheme that cost the state of Wisconsin over $22,000 between 2010 and 2015.

50-year-old Raimone Lewis, 31-year-old Melissa Hlawek and 48-year-old Kristine Lewis were all accused of filing 93 fraudulent state income tax returns. The returns included false wage and tax statements issued by two fake businesses requesting refunds of tax money that was never actually withheld.

When authorities searched their home they found notebooks with stolen identities as well as other records associated with the scheme.

The three face a combined 24 years in prison and will be sentenced later this month or in April.
