Three Injured in Crash with Intoxicated Illinois Man

On Sunday at 8:51 PM Walworth County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two vehicle crash on Highway 67 at County Road K in the Town of Sharon. 

When Officers arrived they found two vehicles off the road in the Northeast corner of the intersection. One vehicle was a Chevrolet that was on its roof in the ditch line and the other vehicle was a Volkswagen.

Initial investigation reveals that the Chevrolet was traveling Eastbound on Hwy 67 being driven by Amaryllis Arellano 24, from West Chicago, IL when it was struck by a Northbound Volkswagen which had been traveling on County Road K and failed to stop at the stop sign at Hwy 67. The Volkswagen was driven by Rafael Eleazar Cogsanon-Balam 31, from Capron IL and he was the sole occupant of his vehicle.  The Chevrolet had a total of six occupants.  

Three of the occupants, all juvenile's ranging in age between 11 and 15 sustained serious injuries with numerous fractures. All were transported to nearby trauma centers.

Cogsanon-Balam was arrested for three counts of Causing Great Bodily Harm by Intoxicated use of a Motor Vehicle.

The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office Crash Team continues to investigate the incident and other charges may be forthcoming.
