MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Microsoft, one of the world's largest tech companies, is set to break ground in Mount Pleasant later this year, but job opportunities at the company's new location may be slim pickings.
This April, Microsoft bought 315 acres of land for $50 million.
The land was once meant for Foxconn, the world's largest electronic manufacture company, but that deal fell through.
Now, Microsoft is set to take over the land.
Despite the future building being worth $1 billion, employment may only reach in the hundreds, a number that one city leader said is standard for the operation of a data center.
"This is really about the infrastructure and the investment -- not so much the jobs, but it's still significant. You're talking about between 600-800 jobs potentially, so that’s great," said Racine County Executive Jonathan Delagrave.
City leaders are hopeful the tech mecca will have its doors open come 2033.
