MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – A decision is nearing on where the 2020 Democratic National Convention will be held.
Milwaukee is a finalist alongside Houston and Miami Beach.
Milwaukee Bucks Senior Vice President Alex Lasry is leading the push to have Milwaukee host the DNC and says Fiserv Forum is the crown jewel of the pitch.
According to Lasry, democratic officials will most likely visit Milwaukee for a second time in the next month before possibly beginning contract negotiations.
In an interview on Wednesday, Lasry said hosting the DNC could bring $200-300 million to Wisconsin.
Democratic wins in the recent midterm election could be another draw for having the convention in Milwaukee although Lasry said the bid is supported by leaders from both parties.
“For us what we’re really excited about is that this is bipartisan,” he said. “This is about Wisconsin as a whole and putting the state on the map in a way it hasn’t been.”
The DNC is scheduled to take place July 13-16, 2020. A winner could be chosen by late December or early January.
