'The Moving Wall' Vietnam memorial to be on display in Waukesha Memorial Day weekend
WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- "The Moving Wall," a half-sized replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, will return to southeast Wisconsin.
"The Moving Wall" will be on display in Waukesha’s Frame Park, on Thursday, May 27 through Memorial Day. It will be showcased 24 hours each day and close at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1.
“We are honored to host the visit of ‘The Moving Wall’ to Waukesha,” said Joanna Adamicki, special events coordinator. “It has been an amazing experience to work with so many people passionate about making this event an incredible experience for all involved. Most importantly, the Work Team, nearly 300 volunteers and City staff want to convey the utmost honor and respect for our Vietnam Veterans.”
An Opening Ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 27, at 6 p.m. at the Amphitheater in Frame Park. The ceremony will include a variety of speakers, Laying of the Wreaths ceremony, and a reading of the names of the servicemen from the City of Waukesha. On subsequent nights, the names of those lost from other cities in Waukesha County will be read aloud at 9:00 p.m. A Field of Honor with nearly 300 dedicated flags will also be on display during the visit.
“The Moving Wall” display includes the names of more than 58,000 servicemen and women who gave their lives in service during the Vietnam Conflict. The memorial includes 68 Waukesha County natives, with 14 from the City of Waukesha.
