'We’re here for you buddy': Port Washington community rallies around 11-year-old hit-and-run victim
Championship Martial Arts PORT WASHINGTON, Wis. (CBS 58) - An 11-year-old boy is recovering in the hospital after police say he was hit by a driver who fled the scene.
Eleven-year-old Logan Reifenstuhl was riding his bike near Arrowhead and Port Washington in Grafton shortly after 6:30 p.m. Friday when police say 37-year-old David Sitar hit him.
Logan suffered serious injuries and remains in the hospital.
Kris Hoff, the owner of Championship Martial Arts and where Logan has trained for two years, described the 11-year-old as a “driven little boy, always eager to please, full of energy.”
Logan recently earned his blue belt at the martial arts school.
“Just a horrible situation you never want to see any family go through,” Hoff said.
Police later arrested Sitar in Illinois. Court records show Sitar has a long criminal record and was previously convicted of hit-and-run in Kenosha County in 2011.
Now, Logan’s martial arts family is rallying around him and his family as he faces what could be a long recovery.
Hoff said the community is collecting donations to help with expenses, including gift cards for gas and food. A GoFundMe has also been created to support the family.
“We know that this is not going to be a short or cheap road,” Hoff said.
Hoff said the support reflects the team and family culture at Championship Martial Arts.
“We can’t have success without having people around us so that team and family culture really comes through,” Hoff said.
And Hoff wants Logan to know his martial arts family is waiting for him.
“We’re here for you buddy and your CMA family is waiting for you and we’ll help you every step of the way,” Hoff said.
