The Hop available for public boarding at Bastille Days

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee's new streetcar, The Hop, will be one of the special attractions at Bastille Days this weekend. Although those at the festival won't be able to ride it, they can get on board and check out the new mode of transportation.

The streetcar will be open to boarders from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at the Cathedral Square platform on Kilbourn Avenue between Jefferson and Jackson Streets.

Hop Helpers will also be there to answer questions and shirts with The Hop logo will be available for sale.

“Bastille Days is always a highlight of the summer in Milwaukee, and we’re thrilled to add to the excitement with this unique opportunity to be among the first to climb on board The Hop,” Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said. “We’ve worked closely with Bastille Days staff and the East Town Association to ensure that The Hop will serve as a convenient transportation option for festival-goers in the years ahead.”

Two of the five Hop streetcars have already arrived in Milwaukee with the rest expected the next few months.

The public is expected to first be able to ride The Hop in November. Rides will be free for the first year.
