MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The City Employee Recognition Awards were held Thursday, highlighting workers whose dedication to their craft helps uplift the city. 

This year, five different employees were honored at City Hall. 

Whether it's filling potholes, fixing a water main break, or keeping neighborhoods safe, Mayor Cavalier Johnson wants it to be known that their work is appreciated. 

"Each and every single one of you, you are the heartbeat of this city," said Mayor Johnson. "You don't do it for the headlines, you don't do it for the recognition, you do it because you care. You care about the people who live here in the community with you."

This year alone, nearly 100 employees were nominated for their efforts.
