The arctic pattern isn't changing

A wind chill advisory is in effect until Noon Tuesday!  It's another frigid night with chills between -15 and -25 below zero.  Unfortunately the latest trend of arctic air won't change much over the next 7 days.

Today is the 10th consecutive day with a temperature below 32 degrees.  The last longer stretch was 12 consecutive days in February of 2015.  Thankfully we are nowhere near the record of 52 consecutive days in 1979.

The problem for us is the overall pattern isn' changing.  A persistent ridge over the Pacific continues to push storm systems north across Alaska; however, as the jetstream pushes north to our west, it comes crashing down across the Midwest.  Shot after shot of arctic air cycles through every couple of days keeping temperatures well below normal.

There are some indications that we could get closer to 30 by the weekend.  Hopeful the pattern starts to shift and we get back to more of a normal January.
