Teacher Appreciation Week at MPS

\"Our Stories with Michele\" is a regular feature of the CBS 58 News at 4 p.m.

It's a segment that gives extra time to people do good work in our community.

On Monday, we featured \"Teacher Appreciation Week\" at MPS.

The leader of MPS invited CBS 58 Cameras to come along as she stopped by Craig Montessori School to give special recognition to teacher Danielle Ruddock who has been working with first, second and third graders at the school for a decade.

\"It's very rewarding and gratifying especially those ah ha moments when they get it,\" Ruddock told CBS 58 News. \"There's a big smile on their face,it really makes my day.\"

Dr. Darienne Driver  says the educators of MPS must often go above and beyond the basic job description. \"Many of our students are living in challenging situations,\" explained Dr. Driver. \"So our teachers are not only equipped with the content knowledge but also with the social emotional learning skills that they have to be able to impart on our children.\"

There will be special certificates handed to each teacher and Lamar Advertising and Clear channel donating this billboards to spread a simple but powerful message of thanking our teachers.

MPS has also arranged different discounts and promotions with local retailers and will be sharing \"Thank a Teacher\" signs with MPS families.

A community effort to make sure teachers are recognized for what they bring to the place we all call home.
