Tanning bed causes fire in Racine home

The Racine Fire Department responded to the report late Thursday night of a “tanning bed on fire” at a residence at 16th and Russet Streets.  The owner of the home reported the fire around 10:30 PM and said the three occupants tried to put the fire out themselves but could not.   Firefighters  were able to extinguish the fire quickly.  The fire was confined to the basement of the house.   Damage to the home is estimated at $50,000 while the cause of the fire is under investigation.  The residents of the home, who were uninjured, have been  able to make alternate living arrangements .
