Suspect wanted for stealing $1,000 worth of cigarettes at south side Speedway

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) --- Milwaukee police are searching for a male suspect who stole over $1,000 worth of cigarettes during at a south side Speedway.

Police say it happened around 4 a.m. in the 3000 block of Chicago Avenue. 

The suspect distracted the clerk by asking to use the bathroom, requiring the clerk to get cleaning supplies. Police say once the clerk was distracted, the suspect emptied over $1,000 worth of packs of Newport cigarettes into a black garbage bag, shoved his way past the clerk, then fled on foot. 

Officers in the area could not locate the suspect, who likely had a car in the area.

Police say the suspect is a Black male and was last seen wearing a blue hoodie, flat brimmed cap with a white logo, a mask, and glasses.
