MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A shooting that took place near a popular restaurant on Milwaukee's Brady Street early Thursday morning injured one person, according to the Milwaukee Police Department.

Authorities said the incident took place around 1:42 a.m. on April 4 near the intersection of E. Brady Street and N. Van Buren Street, where the Middle Eastern restaurant and lounge known as Casablanca is located. MPD told CBS 58 News the incident was the result of an argument.

A 38-year-old victim was rushed to the hospital with injuries and is expected to survive, police said.

A 29-year-old man was detained, with charges pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.

"If you look at the statistics of Milwaukee, Brady Street is (in) one of the safest neighborhoods," said Michael Sander, the executive director of Milwaukee's Brady Street Business Improvement District (BID).

Sander said Thursday's shooting was an isolated incident, even though it's not the first at this location.

"This is maybe the third situation in three years," he said. "Obviously Casablanca is part of our neighborhood, I want to support them in every way, but something has to be done to ensure that this does not happen again."

Sander said he's working hand-in-hand with Milwaukee police to try to speed up the response time from law enforcement when an incident like this takes place.

"You know, we have cameras on these streets, they've never been shared with MPD; now that I've stepped into this job, on Friday, they're actually coming down here to have access to our cameras," he explained.

Sander added that Brady Street is an iconic strip and wants to remind the community that safety is top of mind.

"We have businesses that have been here 60 to 70 years. I think it's just a special street because it's like a family," Sander said.
