Suspect arrested after hiding from Whitewater Police in Cravath Lake

WHITEWATER, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 22-year-old Palmyra man is facing multiple charges including resisting arrest after hiding from police over the weekend.

A Jefferson resident initially called police around 10:50 p.m. on Saturday to report that the Palmyra man was out on bond from a previous charge and had violated a court order. The man was allegedly drinking at V's Waterfront Venue, located at 292 S. Wisconsin Street, in Whitewater.

Officers located the suspect inside the venue and took him into custody.

While changing over from traditional handcuffs to a transport belt, the suspect allegedly ran from officers and jumped in Cravath Lake.

The suspect was located within approximately 30 minutes but continued to evade officers by swimming and concealing himself in the lake.

He was ultimately taken into custody just before 2 a.m. on Sunday.

The WPD is seeking charges which include felony escape, bail jumping, resisting/obstructing an officer and violation of probation.

Formal charges are pending.
