Suspect accused of stealing 800 pieces of mail in Wauwatosa, selling check photos for thousands
Wisconsin Court System WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 29-year-old Milwaukee man is facing charges after investigators say he used a postal key to steal hundreds of pieces of mail from blue collection boxes, photographed checks and sold the images through Telegram for $100 each.
According to a criminal complaint, Mario Casey is charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering, forgery, theft of mail, theft of property and unauthorized use of personal identifying information. Prosecutors say the scheme ran from late Dec. 2025 through April 4 and involved more than $100,000.
Wauwatosa police say City Hall video repeatedly showed a red Chrysler arriving between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. and someone using a key to open a USPS mailbox. Investigators arrested Casey on Saturday, April 4 during a surveillance operation at City Hall.
The complaint says Casey later admitted stealing mail for three to four months, estimated taking more than 800 pieces and told detectives he made about $3,000 to $4,000 by sending check photos to a Telegram contact called "Oxy."
Casey is due in court Thursday, April 9.
