On Memorial Day weekend, more than 31,000 American flags adorn the graves of war dead at Milwaukee’s Wood National Cemetery. It’s a nod to the roots of Memorial Day first observed in 1868 when it was known as Decoration Day.
The meaning of the annual observance is not lost on a Marine veteran who honors those who sacrificed their lives serving in the military year-round by giving back to the men and women who are still with us and need help.
On CBS 58 Sunday Morning Mike Strehlow shared Mike Beal’s story of dedication to the organization that helped him when he needed it most, the Center for Veterans Issues.
